PPE and infection control update
The public health bodies of the UK have issued an update to the COVID-19 Guidance for maintaining services within health and care settings. (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-infection-prevention-and-control?)
There has been no change to the recommended PPE used in the medium-risk pathway in which osteopathic practice operates i.e. sessional use of fluid resistance surgical masks, single-use gloves and aprons, and the use of a visor or eye protection on a risk assessment basis.
We have updated our Infection Control and PPE in Osteopathic Practice (https://www.iosteopathy.org/r/covid-19/adapting-your-practice/?document) referencing this latest update.
At present we are adhering to the guidelines set out by Public Health England (PHE) which are monitored by the Institute of Osteopathy (which we are members of).
This ensures we maintain an up-to-date Clinic according to the present Covid-19 Guidance.
In the Clinic we are maintaining 2 metres distance with any other member of staff and they with a patient. We have done a complete risk assessment for the 2 practices which is updated.
The PPE protection is as advised above and all aspects are adhered to.
We clean the chairs and working table, wash basin/toilet area, door handles and whatever has been touched by a patient, steam clean the treatment room floor and toilet area (if used), at the end of each session.
We want to keep everyone as safe as possible in the environment we work in.
